19 years on, shopping complex awaiting completion in Anantnag town
Incomplete complex proving safe heaven for drug addicts, allege locals
Anantnag: Even after a elapse of around 19 years, a shopping complex constructed by Urban Local Body in the heart of Anantnag town is awaiting completion.
An official said that the Urban Local Bodies took over the construction of a shopping complex in the Anantnag town in year 2004 but it is still lying incomplete.
He said that construction of the complex was halted in year 2009 due to paucity of the funds and after a period of around 6 years, the work was resumed in year 2015 when the project cost was revised to Rs 19.28 crore from the earlier Rs 8.65 crore.
The official said that work on the project has been abandoned several times and despite passage of more than two decades, the complex is lying incomplete.
A local shopkeeper said that when work on the complex was started, government invited people to deposit money for the booking of shops but since then years have passed but the complex is still incomplete.
He said that it is injustice with the people who have submitted token money some two decades back to get the shops allocated in the complex.
Meanwhile, the local residents said that incomplete building is being used by drug addicts as it has been proving a safe heaven for them.
“One can go inside it and can find syringes, bottles and other material lying there but government has failed to take cognizance of the matter,” they said.
“Despite that government is well aware about the issue, they are resorting to dilly dally tactics due to unknown reasons,” they alleged.
The locals have now requested LG Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter at an earliest so that complex will be completed and shops allotted to deserving people.
