Five killed in two road mishaps
Jammu/Srinagar: At least five people were killed in two road mishaps in Doda and Kupwara districts, officials said Tuesday.
They said that three people were killed after a vehicle skidded off the road and fell down into 500-ft-deep gorge in Doda district on Tuesday evening.
The official said that a Tempo traveler bearing registration number (JK02AE-9222) on its way to Doda from Khankoot rolled down from the road and fell into a 500-feet-deep gorge.
“Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was started but unfortunately three people died on the spot”, he said.
He identified the deceased as Mohammad Aslam son of Mohammad Ismail, Mohammad Ishaq son of Mohammad Ibrahim and Mohammad Yaseen son of Ghulam Hassan Wani, all residents of Khankoot.
SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom also confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, two persons were killed while husband-wife duo was injured in another road accident at Hayan area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
An official said that the accident took place near Hayan Trehgam after an Army vehicle bearing registration number 137282K collided with a car bearing registration number JK09B-2285, resulting in on spot death to two persons and injuries to two others.
The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Yaseen Ganie, son of Muhammad Sultan and Shamus Duha, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie—both residents of Kralpora.
He said the injured persons including husband and wife identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Muhammad Mir and her wife Rubeena Begum of Shumnagh, were rushed to Sub District hospital Kupwara for treatment.
The official said a case has been registered in the regard and further investigation has been taken up.
