Shopian residents rue unscheduled power cuts despite fee hike
Shopian: Resentment is brewing among the Shopian residents against the power development department over the unscheduled power cuts despite giving a hike in the electricity fee.
Locals from upper areas of Keller and Hirpora area said that their areas have witnessed frequent cuts since last month, leaving them high and dry.
“We hardly get power supply for a few hours since the last few weeks, which has added to our misery. Amid the prevailing cold wave, the department has failed to follow the notified schedule,” the residents said.
The residents of Keller said their monthly fee has been increased from Rs 113 to Rs 500 per month but there has been no improvement in the power scenario.
“Unscheduled and frequent power cuts have been persistent in the entire area since last one month but there is no body to take cognizance of the issue,” a resident said.
They said from October beginning the PDD has failed to ensure proper power supply as per their curtailment schedule which has taken a toll on the residents.
“We took up the issue with authorities who are assuring us of improvement in the power schedule, but on ground nothing happens,” they said.
The residents urged the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
