Pulwama: Dangling electric wires, worn out poles are posing grave threat to the lives of people as well their property in Rakh, Zahid Bagh and Darbagh area of Litter hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The residents of the areas on Saturday complained that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires tied with trees in their villages.

“The condition of these wires has been the same since decades but no attention is being given towards it,” a local resident said.

They said that the electric lines touch rooftops of houses and trees on roads posing risk to life and property.

“We have been requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas go to deaf ears,” said Gulzar Ahmad, a local resident.

He said they demanded electric poles and wires in the area during the last Back to Village Programmes every year, “but on ground nothing has been done till date.”

A single visit to these areas depicts how these villages have been victims of official neglect. All low-tension wires in these villages are tied with trees due to non-availability poles due to which the wires often get damaged.

Locals said that several years ago electric poles were dropped in Zahidbagh village but are yet to be put in use for unknown reasons.

“We have been paying electricity fees on time and have brought all these issues to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail, the locals said.

They urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter and provide them with new electric wires and install new poles lying unused in the villages.
