Shopian killing: Innocent killings not justified, say Chotigam residents

Shopian: The residents of Chotigam Shopian on Wednesday said that the Kashmiri Pandits are part and parcel of Kashmiriyat and innocent killing cannot be justified at any cost.
The residents said that three pandit families living in the locality since the 90’s were never attacked during the past 30 years.
“No security guards were here since 2016 to give protection to them but they were never harassed,” the locals said, adding that even from 2016 two local youth from Chotigam joined terror ranks but they too never harassed the pandit families.
Abdul Gani, a local resident said that Kashmiris whether Muslims or non Muslims are getting killed but any innocent killing of any person irrespective of his religious belief cannot be justified at all.
“Killing of any innocent must be condemned,” he said.
Shabir Ahmad, another local said that pandits are part of culture and anyone can not be killed for land, religion or any other such thing.
He said that innocent blood cannot be spilled and the lives of civilians need to be protected at all costs.
“Innocent killings must be stopped and common people should be allowed to live freely,” the resident said.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday said that they are planning to attach property of ultras involved in killing of Kashmiri Pandit in Shopian.
An official said Adil Ahmad Wani, a resident of Kutpora Shopian, was involved in killing of Sunil Kumar from Chotigam Shopian.
“The process of attaching the house of Adil Wani has been initiated and all his family members have been already arrested,” he said.
He said that a terror hideout was also busted from the house of Adil during a search operation in Kutpora village of Shopian district.
“On specific input Security Forces launched a CASO in Kutpora, Shopian. During search, terrorists lobbed grenades on the search party. Search party also retaliated. However, the terrorists escaped due to darkness. Police & SFs busted a hideout inside a house and recovered Arms and ammunition,” the JK police tweeted.
Notably, on Tuesday, Sunil Kumar was killed while his brother was injured after they attacked in their orchard in Chotigam Shopian.
