Kulgam: Resentment is brewing among the residents of Drangbal village of DH Pora hamlet in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district against the Jal Shakti department for its failure to provide drinking water facility to the area.
The residents of the area said that they have been facing water shortage since years and authorities are acting as mute spectator.
“Initially our village was connected with Check-e-Samad water supply for time being. However, with construction of road in the area the pipeline was removed and it was never installed again,” said Gulzar Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that later the village was connected with another scheme but that too has been rendered defunct by the department.
The locals said the area was facing drinking water shortage for the past several years but no attention was given to the grave issue.
“We brought this issue in to the notice of concerned authorities but nothing was done on ground till date,” said Waheed Ahmad, another local.
The residents said that a new water supply scheme was sanctioned for the area this year but the department is yet to start the work on it for unknown reasons.
The residents urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter and start work on new scheme and complete it in a time bound manner.
An official of the department acknowledged that the area was facing water shortage and said the tender was open for Drangbal scheme.
“But as of now we have not received any response to it,” he said.
He said its line will be connected with another scheme as a temporary arrangements till new scheme will get ready.
