Ratnipora residents decry shortage of drinking water
Pulwama: The residents of Ratnipora village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday complained that they were facing acute storage of drinking water for the past several months.
Aghast with the move, the visibly angry residents said the lackadaisical approach of the department has left the people to fend for themselves.
The residents of Gouri Mohalla, Zameendar Mohalla and other residents said that they are facing acute shortage of water but there was no intervention from the concerned department.
“We are facing a lot of problems due to the shortage of drinking water facilities and have to travel long distances to fetch water,” said Imtiyaz Ahmad, a resident of Zamindar Mohalla.
“We have been suffering for years even though some temporary arrangements were made for the area but it did not serve the purpose,” he said.
They said the department never paid heed to their grievances and did not bother to provide drinking water facilities to these villages.
The complaints about scarcity of water are pouring in at a time when the government is making tall claims of providing drinking water facilities to every household under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
“Despite repeated reminders to concerned authorities no attention has been given towards it,” said Sameer Ahmad, another resident.
He said that despite protests and repeated visits to the office of concerned authorities nothing was done on ground so far.
According to locals, Ratnipora is a historical village but has not been given any attention by the administration on the developmental front.
The residents urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
