Kund residents demand completion of Kund-Manzmoo road
Kulgam: The residents of Kund, Maldar and its adjacent areas in Qazigund hamlet of Kulgam district Wednesday appealed to authorities to expedite the execution of the work on the road.
Locals said that Kund-Manzmoo road was approved around two years before at the cost of around 13 crore.
“However no work has been executed on the project in the last two years for unknown reasons,” the locals said.
The approval of the road brought cheers on the face of the residents and they were hopeful that it would be completed on a war footing to connect Kund valley with Verinag.
“Work on the road was started and earth cutting was done on a 10 kms stretch. The construction of Retaining walls was carried out as well,” said Rafaqat Hussain, a local sarpanch.
He said that the JSB was laid on the road and most part of it has been already completed but a part of it was being left out.
“Whenever we contact the PMGSY department they pass the buck to the forest department saying that they are not allowed to work in the remaining portion,” the residents said.
“Why is the forest department raising objections to the construction at this stage. these issues should have been sorted out when the project was approved,” he said.
The residents said the objections should have been raised when earth cutting was going on.
“If authorities won’t carry out work on the remaining portion, then we will not allow authorities to carry out any further work on the portion where the JSB has been laid,” he said..
The residents urged the J&K LG Manoj Sinha, DC Anantnag and Kulgam to intervene in the matter and take immediate steps in this regard.
