Anantnag: The Bijbehara-Sirhama road which was macadamised last year has developed cracks at several spots which has raised fingers on the department over use of alleged substandard material.
The locals have demanded that the concerned should macadamise these spots again besides an inquiry should be started to probe the use of sub standard material for macadamisation of the roads.
Locals from Sirhama ,Wopzan, Badroo, and other areas said the road was macadamised by PMGSY department.
The residents also put the blame on residents saying that they were throwing water on the road due to which it developed cracks at several spots.
“This road has vital importance and is connecting dozens of villages with district headquarter,” Ishtiyak Ahmad a resident of Kalan said.
He said the department should construct a drain at some spots so that water coming out of drains of some households won’t go directly on road.
Another resident, Farooq Ahmad said the authorities must visit the spots where it has developed cracks and find a possible way to restore it permanently.
Locals demanded that cracked spots must be macadamised at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
An official of the department said that cracked spots will be macadamised soon.
