Anantnag: The residents of Khandipari village in Harnag hamlet of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have complained lack of availability of potable water in the area.
Locals said that for the past several years, they are without drinking water facility in the area.
They said that in absence of drinking water facility in the area, they rely on hand pumps for their daily use of potable water.
After taking up the issue with the concerned authorities several times, a water supply scheme for the area was sanctioned six years back but it has been left midway, the locals said.
The scheme was approved six years back and it was to be constructed at a cost of around 10 crore, but due to unknown reasons work on the project has been put on halt, they added.
“Presently we are using water drawn from hand pumps which is highly contaminated,” they said, adding, despite informing higher ups about our plights on daily basis, no attention is being provided towards us, they rued.
“We have been pleading with the officials of the concerned department to solve our problems but to no avail,” the locals added further.
They requested the district officials to look into the matter at an earliest so that the local residents can heave a sigh of relief.
