Sopore: Scores of Anangwadi workers and helpers on Thursday staged a protest against government for failing to increase their monthly honorarium from past several years.
The workers and helpers assembled at Ashpeer Chowk of Sopore and chanted slogans against the department.
The protesters were demanding from authorities to increase their monthly honorarium, fixation of final seniority lists and implementation of new pension scheme to workers and helpers.
Mahmooda, one among the protesters said that the government has failed to fulfill its promises done with the thousands of workers.
“We have been pressing for our demands from past several years but unfortunately, the state government is not paying heed on our demands. Our families are facing hardships,” she said.
She added that the government must enhance their monthly honorarium at an earliest so that the workers could have a sigh of relief.
“We are being forced to take to streets to press for the genuine demands. The authorities should have increased our monthly honorarium much earlier but they left us to face hardships,” Farhat, another protester said.
She said that the government has miserably failed to look into the issues pertaining to the Anganwari workers and helpers, who are serving the department on meager amount.
They appealed the Lt Guv led administration and concerned authorities to fulfill their long pending genuine demands.
