Highway woes: Jmu-Sgr highway closes, reopens later for traffic Authorities planning two-way traffic today
Srinagar: The 278-km-long Jammu-Srinagar highway was restored for traffic after remaining blocked at Samroli in Udhampur district due to fresh landslides on Monday, officials said.
“A massive landslide struck the highway at Dewal near Samroli in Udhampur district around 2.45 am, but men and machinery were employed and blasts were carried throughout the day near landslide site and traffic movement has been restored this evening at Samroli for stranded vehicles,” traffic official said.
“Tomorrow on 01-03-2022, subject to fair weather and better road conditions LMVs(Passenger)/private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa,” traffic department said in an advisory, adding that TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.
It said that cut off for LMVs/private cars from Nagrota (Jammu) will be at 0800 hours to 1200 hours, from Jakheni (Udhampur) at 0900 hours to 1300 hours and from Navyug Tunnel (Qazigund side) 0800 hours to 1200 hours “(subject to change depending on the road position then)” It also said no vehicle shall be allowed before and after cut off timings.
Mughal Road, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road and Kishtwar-Sinthan Road closed for vehicular movement by the Administration in view of snow accumulation.
Notably, hundreds of passenger vehicles, which left for Srinagar and Chenab valley region including Doda and Kishtwar this morning, were stopped at several places including Nagrota bypass and Narwal here.
The highway was only cleared for traffic on Sunday after a day-long closure owing to fresh snowfall in Qazigund-Banihal sector and multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains in Ramban.
The SSP said barring 300 trucks on their way to Jammu, thousands of vehicles had reached their destinations on Sunday.
