Anantnag residents decry water shortage, stage protest
Anantnag: Residents of Anderwan and Alchiward villages in Anantnag area staged a protest demonstration against the shortage of drinking water supply in their area since many years now, reports said.
The aggrieved residents including women and children shout slogans against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide them potable water supply.
The residents alleged that water is being supplied through water tankers.
“We have to wait for water tankers and sometimes we consume water drawn from tube wells. This is height of injustice,” said an elderly protester.
Locals further said that they have approached higher officials many times and they even assured them of ensuring water supply to the area but nothing was done on ground.
The residents said that a pipe line was laid in Tangwaed by PHE and but the rest of the areas in Anderwan and Alchiward were left uncovered due to which residents face inconvenience.
The residents appealed to District as well Lt Guv administration for intervention in this regard and solve the problem faced by the locals.
Meanwhile, when concerned AEE PHE Mohammad Ayoub said that new lift scheme under JJM has been framed for Anderwan for which tendering is under process and work on the scheme will be started from April 2022.
