Five years on, vital bridge in Bijbehara awaits completion
Anantnag: Despite a lapse of over five years, the Roads and Buildings department has failed to complete a vital bridge in Gantalipora area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag.
Strong resentment is brewing among locals against inordinate delay in completion of the project, reports said.
Mohammad Amin, a local said that the work on the project was started in 2017.
“The government had assured us that the bridge would be completed at an earliest in view of the importance of the bridge, however, they failed to complete the project within stipulated time,” h added.
He said that bridge will connect them to their farm land but in absence of bridge they are suffering a lot.
The non-completion of this bridge is taking heavy toll on the farmers in the surrounding villages as they have to incur more costs on transportation of farm produce, said another local.
“It has become a routine for some authorities to initiate a project, and then ‘forget’ to complete it,” said Bilal Ahmad, another local.
The locals urged the government to direct the authorities concerned to ensure completion of the bridge at the earliest.
An official of the R&B said that project got delayed due to change in DPR, however, he assured that it will be completed very soon.
