Srinagar: The residents of Sanat Nagar and Hakeem Bagh in uptown Rawalpora are up in arms against the administration for failing to improve the public transport services in the area especially during evening hours.
A delegation of the area headed by Mohammed Shafi Monday protested demanding separate sumo stand for Sanat Nagar/Rawalpora locality. The delegation was aghast against the lack of transport services to the area.
“Our area comprises of Sanat Nagar and adjacent Hakeem Bagh Rawalpora. This is a well populated area but ironically no separate Sumo service has been provided to this area.
“While we move out in search of transportation nobody picks us up as the Sumo service operates only from Rangreath area and while they reach Hakeem bagh/Sanat Nagar they are filled to the capacity and cannot pick more passengers,” the delegation members said.
They said they despite waiting for hours together they find it impossible to get a vehicle especially during peak hours.
The delegation members complained that the student community suffers in particular followed by the office goers as they cannot reach their destinations on time.
“Everyone here doesn’t own a car or private transport especially the young ones who need to reach their institutions early,” the locals residents said.
They urged the Regional Transport Officer Kashmir to immediately look into the matter and establish a separate Sumo stand at Hakeem Bagh or Sanat Nagar area so that they get some respite.
