Footpaths in Pulwama town have been encroached, say pedestrians
Pulwama: People in south Kashmir’s Pulwama Township complained that there is no footpath available in the town as pedestrians are being compelled to walk alongside the traffic on the roads.
Pedestrians said that they find it very hard to walk through the town as they are supposed to walk along with vehicles. Some people mange to walk through the traffic but children and elderly find it very hard to do so, said a pedestrian.
He said that with no footpaths available, people are forced to walk on roads which often lead to accidents.
Another pedestrian said that it is only town where no footpaths have been constructed so far and if any portion has witnessed space for footpaths it has been encroached.
He said that there should have been footpaths in more busy markers like Rajpora chowk, Murran chowk and roads leading to hospitals.
This issue has been brought into the notice of concerned higher ups several times but to no avail, said a trade body member.
Locals as well as pedestrians requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and construct footpaths in main town.
An official of the municipal committee said that construction of footpaths falls in the jurisdiction of R&B.
However, R&B official says construction of footpath needs widening of roads which will need huge amount and as of now there is no such plan pending for approval before the department.
