Villagers allege damage to crops by wild animals

Anantnag: Residents of Daksum area of Anantnag district said that wild animals are damaging their crops regularly however, the wild life officials have failed to curb the menace and help safeguard their crops.
The residents said that once their crops get ready, wild animals come to the residential areas and damage all standing crops due to which locals feel distressed.
Abdul Gani Sheikh a local resident said that this year due to very less rain during summer, they had very less crops this year and whatever was raised is being damaged by wild animals.
He said that wildlife department has failed to provide any relief to the locals as they have failed to curb the animal intrusions due to which lives are in danger besides that their crops on which they are dependent have also perished.
Many other farmers also said that their crops have been damaged by wild animals and they don’t have anything to pin their hopes now.
“Our bean crop, cereals and maize have been damaged on which our livelihood is dependent,” said Mustufa, another resident.
Locals said that they brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They have requested higher ups to look into the issue at an earliest.
