Pulwama: The residents in Arigam village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are facing scarcity of potable water since last several years, locals alleged.
The residents of the village said that despite living very close to the district headquarters they were suffering for the want of potable water.
“We have been protesting for want of water since last several years but no attention is being given towards us,” said Junaid Ahmad a local resident.
He said that the residents are forced to fetch drinking water from other areas which is proving quite difficult.
“It is ironic that despite repeated pleas and protests, the authorities do not take any concrete step to provide continuous water supply to our villafe,” locals said.
“We request the authorities to provide a water supply scheme to the area so that people can heave a sigh of relief,” another resident of the area, Abdul Qayoom said.
He said that our repeated pleas are falling on deaf ears as authorities have failed to take any action so far.
Due to the shortage of potable water, locals are forced to drink contaminated water due to which water borne diseases can break out anytime, the locals said.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that the issue is resolved.
An official of the Jal Shakti department said that village will get potable water soon.
