Hamray residents stage protest over ‘filthy water’ supply
Residents block Srinagar-Muzaffarabad national highway for an hour
Sopore: The residents of Hamray village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday afternoon staged a protest against Jalshakti department for supplying filthy water to their area since the past one month.
The residents of Parra Mohalla of Hamray area assembled at main market and blocked Srinagar-Muzaffarabad national highway to protest against Jalshakti department for not providing them safe drinking water.
While staging a protest the residents raised slogans against Jalshakti department and disrupted traffic movement there for an hour.
Protesters said that they are getting contaminated water supply from the water scheme and the department has failed to find out a solution, due to which they live under threat of an epidemic.
Showing a bottle of “contaminated water”, the protesting residents alleged that there were high chances of an outbreak of water-borne diseases in the area.
They said that they have taken the matter to the officials of the department many times but to avail.
Meanwhile, a team of concerned police station reached to the spot within no time and assured the protesters to take up the matter on urgent basis.
After assurances by senior police officers the protesters dispersed peacefully and the traffic movement was restored smoothly on the national highway.
