New building awaits completion since 11 years, allege locals

Shopian: The sub health centre in Manloo village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district which caters to dozens of villages with over five thousand population runs from a single room, locals alleged.
The centre is functioning from a single room for the last three decades now and authorities have failed to complete the new building since the past 11 years, locals said.
They said that how can the centre function normally as it has to cater to all sorts of health needs of the people which includes immunization also.
The room from which the centre is functioning is located on the first floor of a shop which too small to let the staff function with ease.
Locals said that their pleas to the authorities to complete the under construction building have gone unheard.
They added that ladder leading to the health centre has also decayed due to which people fear for injuries while coming for treatment here.
Besides, due to lack of facilities, patients prefer to visit district hospital which is about 6 kms from the village, the locals said.
“Even though we have provided land for the construction of a new building for the hospital but the government has failed to complete it since the past 11 years,” the locals added.
This issue was brought in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail and the department has failed to complete the new building.
They once again requested higher ups to address the issue and complete the new building at an earliest.
