NC leader arrested under UAPA for ‘hate speech’: police
Srinagar: National Conference leader Hilal Lone has been arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly delivering a hate speech at a rally during last year’s district development council elections in Bandipora, a senior police official said on Tuesday.
Lone, the son of NC’s Member of Parliament Mohammad Akbar Lone, was arrested on Monday from the MLA hostel here where he was being held captive since December last year, the official said.
He was booked under various sections of the UAPA in an FIR registered at a police station in Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The official said the case relates to a speech he made during the public rally while campaigning in the DDC polls in Hajin.
On December 25 last year, he was detained in Bandipora’s Sumbal area and then shifted to the MLA hostel here.
Lone was later remanded to 10 days police custody by a local court.
An official said that Hilal Lone who is also the elder son of member parliament from north Kashmir and senior NC leader Mohammad Akbar Lone was remanded to 10 days police custody after he was booked by Hajin police under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
He said that Hilal was remanded to 10 days police custody by the court of chief judicial magistrate Bandipora.
Earlier, Hilal was booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for delivering a ‘hate speech’ during a public rally in Hajin Bandipora district.
An official said that Hilal was booked under FIR number 02/2021 under sections 153 A/ 188/ 505 IPC and 13 of the Unlawful Activities Act, which was already registered at Police Station Hajin.
The official said that Hilal had delivered a hate speech while addressing a public rally during DDC election campaign in Hajin last year. (with inputs from PTI)
