Sumbal: A complete shutdown was observed in Sumbal town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district against Power Development Department’s inability to supply electricity in the area as per schedule.
The shutdown was observed after the call was forwarded by Traders Federation Sumbal.
The town has witnessed multiple protest demonstrations against PDD over the erratic power supply.
Witnesses said that all shops and other business establishments remained closed against unscheduled and long hours of power cuts in Sumbal and several adjoining villages.
Traders Federation Sumbal said that over the past few weeks the unscheduled power cuts had increased considerably.
“The erratic power supply is adding to our hardships. Despite raising this issue with higher ups nothing changed on the ground,” said locals.
Reports said that SDM Sumbal visited the market and assured traders’ federation that their grievance will be address, after his assurances the shopkeepers resumed their business. (KNT)
