Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of north Kashmir on Thursday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Wanigam Payeen in the Kreeri area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir Thursday morning following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the forces, drawing retaliation.
In the exchange of fire, two militants were killed, the official said.
Notably, sources said that one among the slain militants was a Jaish-e-Mohammad commander.
As per the sources the slain militants have been identified as Abrar alias Langoo from Pakistan and Amir Siraj from Sopore, however there was no official word regarding the identity of the slain militants.
Amir had gone missing on 24th June this year and was said to be an ace footballer.
Meanwhile, a Sahastra Sema Bal (SSB) man was injured in a grenade explosion in Malpora, Watergam area of Rafiabad in Baramulla district on Thursday evening.
Police sources said that militants hurled a grenade towards the SSB vehicle in Watergam area resulting in injuries to an SSB personnel.
He said that the injured SSB man has been identified as CT Rakesh.
“The injuries are minor in nature and the SSB man stable,” he said, adding that the area has been cordoned and a massive hunt launched to nab the attackers.
Later in the evening suspected militants hurled a grenade towards Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men at Braripora area of Srinagar City. However, no loss of life or injury was reported, officials said.
Officials said militants lobbed grenade towards CRPF 161 bn, A Coy camp Braripora Chowk Nawa Kadal, which exploded at a distance from the bunker with a huge bang.
