Say development only reason for voters to choose ballot

Srinagar: Panzinara area falling on the outskirts of Srinagar city had come alive on Tuesday as voters were heading for poll stations to cast their votes.
The voters who were enthusiastically participating in the polls said that the development was the only reason for elderly as well as the young men to turn up at the polling booths to cast their ballots.
“We have come out to cast our ballots only to ensure that our sufferings and day-to-day miseries will come to an end,” Ghulam Hassan Bhat, a local voter from Panzinara said.
Bhat, who has also won the Panch polls uncontested recently, said that almost eight of the independent candidates have won uncontested in Panch elections, adding that they were mostly focused on DDC elections today as two of the candidates including one independent Jameela Begum and one BJP candidate Rifat Subhan are in the fray.
“The locality is facing tremendous hardships as it has been ignored by all the representatives so far. We have to visit Bandipora, sometimes Srinagar and sometimes any other place for completion of our works. It seems we are being kicked from one wall to the other. Our locality is sans any public facility including the PDD office,” Bhat said.
He further stated that they are being forced to rush to places which are more than 10 kilometers from the village even for minor works.
“We don’t want such disparity to continue thus have turned up at the polling booths to ensure that our candidate, who is also a local will emerge victorious so that the miseries in our day-to-day life will come to an end,” he said.
A young man, in the meantime came closer while hearing the conversation, also spoke over the sufferings they are facing.
“We have seen the parties and their leaders. It was the time to stand on our own and thus we chose a candidate and filed her nomination papers. We are sure that once she is elected, she will come up to the expectations of people as she is also one among the sufferers in the locality,” he said.
He added that there was no need for them to support any of the candidates from anywhere as they have never fulfilled their promises and would not fulfill in the future as well. “It was an apt time to choose a local candidate on our own and thus we did it and are hopeful that she will emerge victorious,” she said.
Seconding each other, Bhat and the young man said that whosoever has cast ballots from their locality, it is purely for development purposes as they have been deprived any developmental work since the last two decades or so.
“There are two contestants in the fray in the DDC polls here at Malikpora constituency. One among the contestant is a local lady while other is BJP candidate,” they said. (KNO)
