Aishmuqam residents face shortage of drinking water
Anantnag: Residents of Hamlet Cherawad Vail Nagbal in Aishmuqam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday said that they have been facing acute shortage of drinking water for the last few years.
The residents of the area staged a protest against the officials of PHE sub division Aishmuqam and demanded portable water to the area.
The residents of the area said that the engineering and field staff of the Jal Shakti department promised to will visit the area, however, no one has visited the place so far to learn about the miseries the common people face here.
The Jal Shakti department claims that they will ensure drinking water facility to the people but the on-ground the reality is far from the claims made by them, they added.
“The women in the area have to travel many kilometers to fetch a few potable water,” the angry resident alleged.
“In absence of pure water, we are forced to drink contaminated water due to which local residents often fall prey to water borne diseases,” said Shabir Ahmad, a local resident.
He added that they have taken up this issue with the concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
The residents appealed the deputy commissioner of Anantnag and Chief Engineer, PHE, Kashmir to completely re-shuffle the staff of PHE sub-division Aishmuqam.
“Our issues will see redressal only after the present staff is transferred and new ones are posted here,” they said.
On contacting the concerned Executive Engineer, PHE sub-division Aishmuqam, Mohammad Hanief, he said that next week a team will visit the area and their demands will be taken on priority.
