‘Remembering the saviors’
Uri: More than seven decades may have passed but the wounds inflicted by the Tribal invaders on the inhabitants of the Boniyar Tehsil still linger in the minds of the local elders.
However, the saga of valour of the Indian Army which came as saviour of locals brings respite to them, who had witnessed dark and gloomy skies after the wave of carnage was unleashed by those tribals supported by the Pak Army.
As a mark of respect towards the bravehearts of the Indian Army who sacrificed their lives to save Boniyar and fought the tribals, the elders of the area organized an event at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Memorial, Boniyar, a statement issued here said.
They wanted to educate their young generation about indomitable spirit and bravery of Brigadier Rajinder Singh who attained martyrdom at Boniyar. Eminent personalities from Boniyar took the stage to share their experience among them, the prominent was Nazar Boniyari, who narrated the hand information of the event from 22 Oct till 31 Oct 47 to include the resistance given to the tribals by the state forces and arrival of the Indian Army, the statement said.
He also narrated role of the civilians who supported the Indian Army in their endeavors during various battles. A cultural program was also organized wherein students from Army Goodwill School Boniyar and local singers also participated. The event saw a spirited participation from residents of Rampur- Boniyar who expressed their gratitude to the Army for support in organizing the event. They were confident that the younger generation would be inspired by Brigadier Rajinder Singh to save their motherland.
They were also happy that such initiatives will channelise their energies in the right direction. People applauded the role of Indian Army in maintaining normalcy in the region.
