JAMMU, Feb 19: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma Thursday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of governance paralysis and failing to review any of the 18 departments under his charge.

Speaking outside the Assembly here, Sharma alleged that the Chief Minister has not conducted a single review meeting since assuming office, leaving the administration to the mercy of bureaucrats.

“It is very unfortunate. He holds so many departments but hasn’t taken a single review meeting. This is a violation of governance,” Sharma said.

“He has never asked any department about its functioning. Now, the officers will simply round up figures and present whatever they wish. A minister is supposed to hold daily meetings, be on the ground, and in the field before presenting answers,” he added.

Taking a dig at Abdullah’s public appearances, the LoP remarked, “The CM’s personality is very engaged—he has to go skiing in Gulmarg, go jogging, go on foreign trips, and take a lot of time to make coffee. With these engagements, the 18 departments he holds are left in the hands of God.”

In a veiled counter to recent praise of the Chief Minister by minister Satish Sharma, the LoP also drew a distinction in political loyalties.

“Is Farooq Abdullah a messiah? Is he an ideal for Ghulam Ali Khatana? No. The ideals of Ghulam Ali Khatana are Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. Farooq Abdullah may be an ideal for Omar Abdullah or Satish Sharma, not for us,” the BJP leader said.

Sharma said, “Satish Sharma has to do his job—praising the CM from morning to evening. My job is different. I represent the deprived sections facing injustice in governance. I am the voice for the poor, for ration holders who are being beaten up on the ground.”

The attack comes amid a heated Budget session in the Assembly, which has witnessed multiple adjournments and protests by the BJP over issues ranging from law and order to the demand for a National Law University in the Jammu region. (KNS)
