Jammu, Feb 11: Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma on Wednesday said that they won’t let the Jammu and Kashmir assembly function until Chief Minister Omar issues an unconditional apology over his remarks made in the assembly on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, Sharma had said, “Until Omar Abdullah withdraws his words and apologises unconditionally, our MLAs will not allow the Assembly to function. Such language insults the institution and undermines its dignity.”

He described the Chief Minister’s comments as “shameful” and said they reflected a disregard for the House’s sanctity and constitutional norms.

Sharma also accused ruling party members of mocking the Opposition using gestures, which he said further lowered the level of debate in the House.

The controversy erupted during a heated discussion, after which BJP MLAs walked out chanting slogans against the NC government. The Speaker later adjourned the Assembly for the day amid the tense situation.

The BJP warned that its protest would continue if the Chief Minister failed to apologise, asserting that no compromise could be made on the dignity of the Assembly.
