J&K administration rules out fresh delimitation of Panchayats
JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Thursday said it does not contemplate undertaking a fresh delimitation process for Panchayats in the Union Territory.
The clarification was provided by the Minister In-charge of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in a written reply to a query raised by Legislator Khurshid Ahmad from Langate.
The legislator had sought to know whether the government plans to initiate the delimitation of Panchayats and, if so, the timeline for the same.
In its reply, the government cited a recent official notification to rule out any such exercise.
“Delimitation of Panchayats in the U.T. of Jammu and Kashmir is not under consideration, pursuant to Notification S.O. 53 of 2025 dated February 27, 2025, issued by the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department,” the reply stated.
The notification has frozen the boundaries of key administrative units across Jammu and Kashmir.
“The government has frozen the boundaries of Districts, Tehsils, Municipalities, Towns, Revenue Villages, and other administrative units across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with effect from July 1, 2025, till the completion of Census 2021,” the minister’s reply clarified.
