Srinagar: When the Class 10 and Class 12 results were declared, the merit lists told a familiar but powerful story — girls once again dominated the top slots, proving that excellence is no longer an exception but a consistent trend.
Across districts, from government schools to private institutions, female students outshone their peers with stellar scores, reflecting years of quiet perseverance, structured schooling and strong parental backing. Educationists say the shift is not sudden but the outcome of sustained focus, better learning environments and changing mindsets at home.
“I studied with a clear routine and never missed my self-study hours,” said Aaliya Rashid, a Class 10 topper from Srinagar.“My teachers guided me at every step, but the biggest support came from my parents who believed in me even when I doubted myself.”
For many girls, discipline and consistency proved to be the key. Mehak Jan, who secured a top position in Class 12, said girls today are more focused and goal-oriented. “We plan our time well. There is less distraction and more determination. My family ensured a peaceful environment at home so that I could study without pressure,” she said.
Teachers point out that girls tend to show greater classroom engagement and responsibility. “They are regular, attentive and serious about assignments,” said a senior school teacher. “This reflects in their results.”
The success stories also highlight the role of better schooling facilities and mentorship. Nida Bashir, a Class 10 high scorer, credited her school for structured academic support. “Regular tests, doubt-clearing sessions and encouragement from teachers helped me stay confident,” she said.
Parents, too, are increasingly investing equally in their daughters’ education. Sana Farooq, a Class 12 achiever, said the mindset at home has changed. “My parents never differentiated between me and my brothers. They kept reminding me that education is my strength,” she said.
Education experts believe the consistent performance of girls is reshaping social narratives. Higher enrolment, improved attendance and rising aspirations have turned classrooms into spaces where girls are leading by example.
As merit lists continue to be topped by young women year after year, the question almost answers itself — girls are not just sharing the stage anymore; they are setting it.
And once again, the results ask aloud: why should boys have all the fun when girls are clearly running the show?
