Police seize two vehicles in Shopian over illegal extraction of minerals

Srinagar: Police seized two vehicles (one Tipper and one JCB) involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the Sugan and Keegam areas of the district Shopian, a police spokesman said Friday. He said that a police party during routine patrolling intercepted one vehicle (Tipper) found illegally extracting minerals without valid royalty documents. In this regard, a case FIR No. 01/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and further investigation has been initiated. Similarly, a police party intercepted one JCB indulging in illegal mining activities without valid royalty documents. In this connection, a case FIR No. 01/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and further investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
