Srinagar: As the countdown to the New Year begins, Gulmarg has emerged as the centre of celebrations in Kashmir, drawing tourists in large numbers to its snow-clad slopes and vibrant festive atmosphere.

With fresh snow blanketing the famous ski resort, “all roads are leading to Gulmarg” as visitors from across the country arrive to welcome the New Year amid music, culture and winter adventure.

Tourism officials said a series of musical nights, cultural performances and entertainment programmes have been lined up to ensure a memorable New Year experience for visitors.

Hotels, resorts and local venues are hosting special events, while the bustling Gondola area and market are abuzz with tourists enjoying the scenic beauty and festive mood.

“Gulmarg has always been a favourite New Year destination, but this year the response has been exceptional because of good snowfall and improved arrangements,” said an official from the Tourism Department.

“We have planned musical evenings, cultural shows and other activities to provide tourists with a safe and enjoyable celebration. Adequate arrangements have been put in place in coordination with the district administration,” the official added.

Tourists said celebrating the New Year amid snow in Gulmarg was a dream come true.

“We wanted to experience snowfall and celebrate New Year in a unique way. Gulmarg offers the perfect mix of snow, music and celebration,” said Ankit Verma, a tourist from Uttar Pradesh.

Another visitor, Pooja Mehta from Gujarat, said the festive ambience had exceeded her expectations.

“The energy here is amazing. There are events, live music and so much excitement all around. It truly feels like a winter wonderland,” she said.

Local hoteliers said bookings have remained strong through the New Year period, reflecting the continued popularity of Gulmarg as a winter tourism hotspot. “Most hotels are fully booked, and tourists are extending their stays to enjoy the snow and New Year festivities,” a hotelier said.

With snow-covered landscapes, packed hotels and a packed calendar of events, Gulmarg is set to ring in the New Year in style, reaffirming its status as Kashmir’s premier winter destination and the focal point of celebrations in the Valley.
