Pipe leakage continues to flood playground in Lurow Jagir Tral
Local athletes slam Jal Shakti department for ‘negligence’
Pulwama: A major leakage in a water supply pipe at the local playground in Lurow Jagir area of Tral continues to cause inconvenience to players and residents, with locals accusing the Jal Shakti Department of failing to act despite repeated complaints.
For the last several weeks, water has been gushing out of a damaged pipeline that passes through the village playground, leaving the surface muddy and unfit for any sports activity.
Local youth, especially those who use the ground for football and cricket practice, say the leakage has effectively shut down the only recreational space in the area.
“This is the only playground we have, and it has turned into a swamp because of continuous leakage,” said Adil Ahmad, a local cricketer.
“We have informed officials several times but the department has not bothered to repair the pipe. Their negligence is killing our sports culture.”
Residents said the leakage has not only damaged the playground but is also leading to wastage of potable water.
“In a time when many villages in Tral are struggling for regular water supply, watching thousands of litres flow into the mud every day is painful,” said Ghulam Rasool, a senior resident of Lurow Jagir. “The department should be held accountable. How can such a big leakage go unattended for so long?”
Locals claimed that teams from Jal Shakti visited the spot earlier but left without fixing the issue, citing technical reasons. However, locals said they expected the department to take prompt action, considering the importance of the playground for youth.
“We are not demanding anything extraordinary. We only want the damaged pipe repaired so that our children can play again,” said Mohammad Yaseen, another local. “If this continues, the entire ground will become unusable.”
The residents and young players appealed to higher authorities to intervene and direct the Jal Shakti Department to resolve the problem at the earliest. They said the ground holds significance for village tournaments and community events, and prolonged waterlogging may permanently damage its surface.
Locals urged the administration to treat the matter as urgent and ensure that the leakage is plugged before more damage is caused to the playground.
