Bandipora: PM Shiri Government Secondary School Laharwalpora, District Bandipora, organised an important awareness program on the Prevention of Childhood Accidents, aimed at educating students about the daily risks they encounter and promoting a culture of safety and responsible behaviour.
Dr. Raashid Fazilli, son of the soil and Anesthesiologist at Government Medical College Handwara, delivered an insightful PowerPoint presentation focusing on the various hazardous situations that children may face in their surroundings. The session was attended by around 130 participants, including students and teachers, and generated tremendous enthusiasm toward fostering positive mental and behavioural development related to child safety.
Over the course of the one-and-a-half-hour presentation, Dr. Fazilli highlighted key risk factors and emphasised the crucial role of teachers and parents in ensuring a safe environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive. The core strategy of the initiative—“Safety-Conscious Mind and Safe Behaviour”—was strongly advocated throughout the session.
During the interactive discussion, Mr. Wiqar Ahmad, a teacher at the school, made a noteworthy observation about the adverse effects of overprotecting children, which may result in physical or mental fragility. A brief yet thought-provoking debate led participants to acknowledge the importance of maintaining a risk-benefit balance, focusing on risk calculation and risk management rather than complete avoidance of challenges.
As part of the initiative, 130 ‘Save Kids’ pamphlets were distributed among the audience, outlining nine potential risks commonly encountered in daily life.
Expressing his appreciation, Dr. Fazilli said, “I owe deep gratitude to my brother, Javaid Jawad, Headmaster, and his entire team of teachers for their wonderful support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the program.”
On behalf of the school, Javid Ahmad, Senior Teacher, presented the vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Fazilli for his valuable contribution and commended Headmaster Javaid Jawad for his continued efforts to expose students of PM Shiri Government Secondary School Laharwalpora to emerging trends, new ideas, and developmental opportunities aimed at broadening their mental horizons.
