Wake up your kids with gentle words
Mohammad Iqbal Khandy
Communicating well with your children is vital if you want them to be happy and successful and therefore, I would like to invite the kind attention of all the parents to inform them to communicate with their kids in such a way to make their day bright and beautiful. This write up is worth to read for all the parents and I hope it will help them to deal with their little kids, Insha Allah.
A few days before at Srinagar with some colleagues, I saw a video on Facebook about preparing kids for schooling. The video was very much impressive to me. In the content, the person, perhaps to be a teacher by profession, says that we wake up our little kids in a wrong way in the morning. He says in the video that we associate morning with stressful experiences to wake up our kids. Connecting waking up with something enjoyable helps children associate morning with positive vibes instead of stress.
Childhood is a period of discovery, growth, adventure, novelty, challenges and often fear. They are exposed to different experiences to grow up. It is a time when kids learn, explore and build memories.
Childhood is a period of human lifespan between infancy and adolescence from the age of 1-2 years up to 11-12 years. Child in these years grows, change rapidly and learn about themselves and their surroundings. The early years of a child are very important to shape his future bright.
A child learns by playing and trying things out, and by observing and copying that others do. There is an interaction between the child and the environment which affects his development. A child is always exploring new things and learns new skills. Child development can be promoted by simple age appropriate activities that can be easily done at home.
The mind and brain continue to develop and mature throughout childhood. Environmental stresses, traumas and influences shape a child’s brain. So, we should take care of things properly.
In different conditions, different hormones are released in our body. Like during a positive stimulus, our body releases happy hormones and make our mood happy and energized. While getting a negative stimulus, our body releases stress hormones which changes our mood to sadness.
Depending on the type of stimulus, the mood of our kids remains when we wake up them in the morning. We don’t care of our kid’s health. We are supposed to run the competitive race.
Normally we wake up our kids by calling them “get up lest you would get late”, “ get up lest you would miss the bus”, wake up as you have to appear in the exam otherwise you would get failed”, “ hurry up as you have to compete with ABC” , “get up and see the world had reached at heights” and so on.
This type of stimulus when given to the little kids, cause the body to release stress hormones and the mood of our kids is associated with the sadness. There is no doubt, the child wake up, had his breakfast and goes to school. But the whole day for him becomes full of sadness, laziness, exhaustion, lassitude and what not. This is our normal routine to prepare our little kids for the day.
This behaviour towards our kids effects their physical and mental development. So, being responsible parents, we should change this way of communication to our beloved children in the morning.
In the morning, the subconscious mind of a child remains active and open to receive any communication. This helps to build the mood of the child. If the stimulus given to him is negative, the subconscious mind receives the same and the stress hormone (like adrenalin) is released which results the mood of the child to be dejected.
We should communicate to our kids in the morning by saying, “get up dear as a special tea is waiting for you”, “wake up beta as your friends would be waiting for you”, hurry up dear as I have made a special omelette for you”, wake up dear and see how beautiful the sun-rise looks”, wake up dear as you would have to play with your friends at school”. In nutshell, we should create the happy and energized mood by communicating to our kids in a positive way in the morning.
This positive communication is received by the subconscious mind and the happy hormones (like Dopamine, serotonin etc.) gets released, an excitement is created and the kid feels cheerful, energized, blessed and thrilled.
The child wakes up on his own very hurriedly. This behaviour would help us to prepare our bambinos for schooling and make their day joyous and pleasant. Truly, the communication impacts the mood of our kids.
Remember, to wake up our kids or to make them asleep, we should communicate with them in a positive way. Creating their happy mood during these times is very much important. Happy children tend to perform better academically, develop stronger social bonds, and exhibit higher self-confidence. Children who struggle with happiness may experience anxiety and other health issues.
I am a parent of two kids. I used these clues to wake up my kids and they worked effectively. Now, I changed the behaviour of communicating with my kids during morning and at the time of their sleep.
Kids are bundles of energy that needs to power down before it can be recharged. And to discharge that energy, every single kid needs a lot of mental and physical stimulation. Thus, it is highly important to get those wiggles out in inventive ways so they can head on to a direction for good sleep.
