Red Fort blast fallout: Intense vehicle checks underway in Kashmir valley
Srinagar: A day after a car blast in Delhi, police on Tuesday launched extensive vehicle checking across the valley.
Checks were carried out on national highways and other important arterial roads in Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Baramulla, Ganderbal, and Shopian districts of the valley, a police spokesperson said.
Temporary checkpoints were established at strategic locations to monitor the movement of suspicious persons and vehicles, he said.
Several vehicles were seized for lack of valid documents during the checks, the spokesperson said.
“Police in Awantipora intensified vehicle checking on NH-44 and other important arterial roads across the Police District. The checking drives are being conducted to monitor the movement of suspicious persons and vehicles, and to prevent the transportation of any contraband or unlawful material,” the police spokesman said.
“Police in Pulwama conducted extensive vehicle checking drives across various parts of the district. All permanent nakas remained active, while additional temporary nakas were established at key locations to strengthen security and monitor the movement of suspicious persons and vehicles,” the spokesman added.
The drive is aimed to curb illegal activities, enhance road safety, and enforce traffic and security regulations effectively. Police teams inspected vehicles for valid documents, suspicious movements, and any contraband materials. Senior officers supervised the operation to ensure effective coordination among all naka points, the spokesman added.
“Police in Anantnag carried out extensive vehicle checking drives across various parts of the district, particularly along the National Highway and connecting roads leading to it. All permanent nakas remained operational, while additional temporary checkpoints were established at strategic locations to strengthen security and monitor the movement of suspicious persons and vehicles,” the spokesman added.
He said that senior officers personally supervised the operation to ensure seamless coordination among all naka points and to maintain smooth vehicular movement during the process.
Police in Ganderbal also conducted extensive surprise naka checking at 50 strategic locations across the district.
“Temporary checkpoints were established at vital junctions and entry/exit points to monitor the movement of suspicious persons and vehicles. The operation, was carried out in a well-coordinated manner under the supervision of senior police officers,” the spokesman added.
