Locals demand construction of passenger shed at Galander Pampore
Pampore: Galander Stop pampore has become a crucial waiting point for residents and students, particularly during the afternoon hours as they wait for buses and other means of transport to reach home.
Among them are school and college students, elderly citizens, and daily commuters — all compelled to stand for long hours amid harsh weather conditions, the commuters said.
The absence of a proper passenger shed at this spot has caused persistent inconvenience for the public. During winter, the cold wind blowing from the nearby Jhelum River makes waiting unbearable, while in summer, the scorching heat and lack of shade add to people’s distress. The problem worsens during rainfall, as commuters are left completely exposed without any roof or shelter. Female students, in particular, face greater discomfort during these long and uncertain waits, they said.
It is noteworthy that this location serves as the main waiting area for students of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences, many of whom rely on this stop for their daily commute. Standing for extended periods in such conditions not only causes fatigue but also affects their well-being and punctuality, some of the students said.
Observing this situation daily is disheartening for the locals, who feel neglected despite repeated concerns.
Such an initiative would not only provide comfort and safety to students and elderly commuters but also reflect a thoughtful step toward addressing a long-standing public need, the students added.
