Police arrests three drug peddlers
Srinagar: Police arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Thursday.
In Baramulla, a police party at a checkpoint established at Y Point Babareshi crossing intercepted a suspicious person, identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Rather, son of Mohamad Ayoub Rather, resident of Nambalnar Babareshi.
Upon search, 21 grams of heroin-like substance and a digital weighing machine was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, he was arrested and a case FIR No. 85/2025 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Tangmarg and investigation has been initiated.
A police party at a checkpoint established at Kachkoot, intercepted two suspicious persons. They have been identified as Farooq Ahmad Zaroo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Zaroo, resident of Sether and Ifahaz Ul Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, resident of Pujteng.
During their personal search, Heroin-like substance weighing 5.42 grams, Charas-powder like substance weighing 553 grams and Charas stick weighing 26.43 grams were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and a case vide FIR No. 242/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
