Police arrests four drug peddlers, recovers contraband substances

Srinagar: Police arrested four drug peddlers in Pulwama and Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
He said that in Pulwama, during naka checking at Gudoora Crossing, a police party intercepted two individuals carrying nylon bags. During search, about 7Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Naik, son of Ghulam Ahmad Naik, resident of Ghat Gulzarpora and Abdul Qayoom Mir son of Wali Mohammad Mir resident of Gudoora Pulwama.
In another operation at Singo Narbal, police apprehended one individual carrying charas-like substance (weighing 77.5 grams0. He has been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Hafiz son of Mohammad Ashraf Hafiz resident of Pricho Pulwama, the spokesman added.
Similarly in Shopian, a police party at a checkpoint established at Heff Kuri intercepted a suspicious person, identified as Tariq Ahmad Sheikh resident of Heff Zainapora. Upon search, 3.600Kgs of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
