Police arrests two drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police arrested two drug peddlers in Pulwama and Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Saturday.
He said that in Pulwama, a police party at a checkpoint established at Pahoo Gundipora Crossing intercepted a vehicle (i-10) bearing registration number JK01N/5539.
The driver has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Rehman Sofi, resident of Summerbug Lasjan. During checking, 41 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered from dash box of the vehicle.
The accused was arrested on the spot, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized. In this connection, a case FIR No. 67/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Kakapora and investigation has been taken up, the spokesman said.
He said that in Shopian, a police party at a checkpoint established at Hillow Handew crossing, intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing naka party tried to flee from the spot and was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Abdul Majeed Chopan resident of Frasdab, Charishreef Budgam.
During search, 09 Sticks of charas like substance weighing approximately 328 grams were recovered from his possession and was subsequently arrested. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 33/2025 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Imamsahib and investigations have been initiated, the spokesman added.
