Police solve hit-and-run case, accused held

Srinagar: Police in Awantipora solved a hit-and-run case by arresting the accused person involved in the incident and seizing the vehicle used in the crime, a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that on 10 Oct police received information about a road accident at Hardumir Tral, wherein an unknown vehicle hit and injured a pedestrian, Ariz (aged about 5 years) son of Abdul Gaffar Bhat resident of Hardumir Tral. The injured child was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 126/2025 under relevant sections of Bharatiya law was registered at Police Station Tral, and investigation was initiated.
Acting promptly, a police team launched a sustained investigation to trace the unknown driver. During the investigation, police took assistance of modern techniques, including analysis of CCTV footage from various locations across the Tral area. Through meticulous examination, the team successfully zeroed in on a suspected vehicle and after hectic efforts, the accused driver was identified and arrested. He has been identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Mir son of Habibullah Mir resident of Amlar Nowpora A/P Naibugh Tral. The vehicle (Alto 800) bearing registration number JK13G-6873 involved in the accident has also been seized, the spokesman added.
