Locals urge municipal committee to construct trenches, say repeated pleas go unheard

Bijbehara: Residents of Karewa Colony in Bijbehara town are facing severe inconvenience due to persistent waterlogging in their locality, especially during rains, making daily life miserable.
Locals said that the situation worsens with every spell of rainfall, as streets and residential premises remain submerged for days.
They alleged that despite repeated appeals to the Municipal Committee Bijbehara, no permanent solution has been provided so far.
“Whenever it rains, our entire colony gets waterlogged. We are unable to step out of our houses, and our children can’t even go to school,” said Aamir Ahmad a resident of Karewa Colony.
“We have been approaching the municipal authorities for years now, but every time we are told that the issue will be looked into. When we visit them again, they say they have no information about it. This negligence has left us helpless.” He said
Another local resident, Iqra Jan, echoed similar concerns, saying the area has turned into a “mini pond” after every downpour.
“It becomes impossible to walk through the lanes. The drainage system is either missing or completely defunct. We have been pleading for construction of proper trenches, but our repeated requests have fallen on deaf ears,” she said.
The residents demanded immediate intervention from the concerned authorities, calling for proper drainage and trench construction in the area to prevent future waterlogging.
They urged the Municipal Committee Bijbehara to take the issue seriously and ensure that the long-pending grievance is resolved before the onset of winter rains.
