Water level in Jhelum river rising, situation under control: Flood & Irrigation Dept

Srinagar, Sep 3: The Flood and Irrigation Department on Wednesday said that the water level in river Jhelum is gradually increasing but the situation is currently under control.

Meanwhile, weather experts warned of a sharp rise with the possibility of crossing the danger mark.

As per the gauge readings at 8:00 AM today, Jhelum stood at Sangam (21’/25′)=18.39ft, at Pampore (4.5/5.0)=2.93m, at Ram MunshiBagh (18’/21′)=12.61ft, Asham (14.0’/16.5)=7.63ft and Wullar it was measured at (1578.00)=1576.54m

Besides, Vishow Nallah at Khudwani stood at (7.75/8.50)=8.85m, Rambiyara Nallah at Wachi measured (5.4/5.7) =0.97m and Lidder Nallah at Batkoot (1.5/1.65)=1.50m

Officials also maintained that the situation is under constant monitoring. “Water level is rising but is being closely observed. At present, it remains under control,” a senior official from the Flood and Irrigation Department said.

Meanwhile, independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif Keng cautioned that water levels at Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh may surpass the flood declaration mark and even breach the danger level today. “A sharp rise is expected, and people must remain alert while taking early safety measures,” he said.
