Srinagar: Prime Video is set to premiere ‘Songs of Paradise’, an evocative musical drama inspired by the life of Padma Shri awardee and Kashmir’s pioneering playback singer, Raj Begum. The film will stream exclusively from 29 August in India and more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Presented by Excel Entertainment and produced by Apple Tree Pictures Production and Renzu Films Production, Songs of Paradise has been directed by Danish Renzu, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Niranjan Iyengar and Sunayana Kachroo.

The film stars Saba Azad and Soni Razdan as Noor Begum—a character inspired by Raj Begum—portraying her across two different stages of life. They are joined by Zain Khan Durrani, Sheeba Chaddha, Taaruk Raina, and Lillete Dubey in pivotal roles.

Set against the spellbinding yet turbulent landscape of Kashmir, Songs of Paradise chronicles the journey of a woman who rose above cultural and social restrictions to become the voice of her people, her music evolving into a symbol of courage and defiance.

“Songs of Paradise offers a fresh perspective rooted in Kashmir’s rich musical legacy and celebrates a remarkable true story of resilience,” said Manish Menghani, Head of Content Licensing, Prime Video India.

Calling the film “a heartfelt tribute” to Raj Begum, director Danish Renzu said: “She was a true legend whose voice gave courage to countless women during an era when dreaming itself was taboo.”

With its lyrical storytelling, stirring performances, and musical depth, Songs of Paradise promises to be a fitting ode to Kashmir’s ‘Nightingale’.
