Pesky power cuts irk Wasoora Pulwama residents

Locals demand upgradation of infrastructure
Pulwama: Even in the scorching heat, the residents of Wasoora area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are reeling under frequent and unscheduled power cuts, locals alleged Tuesday.
They have appealed to the higher authorities to intervene and ensure reliable electricity in scorching heat.
They said that tariff has been increased further by Rs 250 per month but nothing is being done to upgrade infrastructure in the district.
The residents said that with the recent power tariff hike, they had expected an improved and uninterrupted electricity supply. Instead, the situation has worsened in the past few weeks, leaving them frustrated.
“We were getting a good supply for the last two months but due to unknown reasons the department has started resorting to pesky cuts,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a local resident.
“In the last three weeks, electricity is being cut off every evening from 7 pm to 10 pm while it remains unscheduled in other time as well which caused immense suffering” he said
Another resident, Saba Jan, expressed her disappointment, saying, “We have been receiving very unscheduled supply in the last few weeks. We were expecting better power supply after increase in tariff, but instead, the department has restored to old tactics of unscheduled cuts.”
Residents also highlighted that the poor power infrastructure in the area is compounding the crisis. “Trees and wooden poles are still being used for LT lines in some places, which often get damaged. This clearly shows how neglected our area is,” said another villager.
The erratic power supply, they said, is not only affecting households but also students preparing for sudden examinations.
Despite repeated complaints to the authorities, the issue remains unaddressed.
“We have brought this matter to the notice of higher officials several times, but nothing has changed. We urge the concerned MLA, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, and PDD officials to step in and resolve the issue so that we can heave a sigh of relief,” the residents said.
