J&K Govt sets up high-level committee to coordinate Census 2027

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a Union Territory Level Census Coordination Committee to ensure smooth planning, implementation, and monitoring of the Population Census 2027.
According to Government Order No. 1098-JK(GAD) of 2025, issued on Monday, the committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary of J&K as Chairman, with key administrative secretaries from Planning, Finance, Housing & Urban Development, Revenue, School Education, and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Departments as members. The Director, Census Operations J&K, has been designated as the Convener, while the Director Planning (Expenditure Division-II, Finance Department) will serve as a member.
The committee has been tasked with overseeing coordination among all agencies at the UT level, assessing resource and infrastructure requirements, and periodically reviewing the progress of census-related activities to ensure timely and successful completion of the exercise.
Officials said the constitution of the panel marks the first major step by the J&K administration towards preparations for Census 2027, a nationwide exercise that plays a crucial role in policy planning, welfare schemes, and resource allocation.
