Residents appeal for immediate government intervention

Pulwama: The residents of Zahid Bagh, a village in Litter tehsil on the boundary of Pulwama and Shopian districts, have expressed deep resentment over the lack of basic facilities, accusing authorities of ignoring their plight for years.
Locals said that despite being home to around 1,000 people, the village has been left neglected by successive governments.
They said that a water supply scheme was constructed for the area around 12 years before all households are yet to be connected with the scheme.
They said repeated pleas to concerned authorities have failed to yield any action. “We have been visiting the offices of the concerned departments for years, but our requests have fallen on deaf ears,” another villager remarked.
The residents also highlighted the poor state of electricity infrastructure, pointing to decayed poles and dangerously low-hanging electric wires.
“This is a threat to our lives, yet no official has bothered to address the issue,” they said.
The government middle school in the village is also struggling with a severe shortage of space and infrastructure. “The school has just three rooms for ten classes. Children from poor families are unable to get a proper education in such conditions,” locals said.
The inner roads in Zahid Bagh are in a dilapidated state and, according to residents, have never been macadamised. “Roads here are full of potholes, making travel difficult, especially during rains,” they added.
The villagers have urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and requested concerned MLA and the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to personally visit Zahid Bagh and take stock of the situation.
“We request the government to provide us with basic facilities at the earliest so we can finally heave a sigh of relief,” the residents said.
