Bandipora: Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqui, former Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), visited Government Middle School Onagam on Wednesday, where he gifted a computer, stationery items to support the academic needs of the students.
During his visit, Prof Siddiqui interacted with the students, highlighting the value of education and the importance of perseverance despite challenges.
He also spoke about good etiquette and behaviour, urging students to grow into ‘responsible citizens and good human beings.”
He assured the students that his charitable organisation would continue to extend support, provided the children remained “committed to learning and followed the guidance of their teachers.”
He said the charity in both cash and kind has an “ultimate goal that poor children should not suffer in today’s technological era.”
Prof Siddiqui discouraged the excessive use of mobile phones among children but encouraged them to embrace technology constructively and develop an “appetite for it.”
“Students from government schools should be equipped with the confidence and skills to compete with their peers who have access to better infrastructure,” even if they are from outside the country, he said.
He also highlighted the need for improved facilities in public schools and called for public intervention for support and donations to bridge the gap.
In addition, he urged the government to create easier mechanisms for individuals and organisations to contribute to the public education sector.
“There are people and multiple other organisations who want to give something back to society,” he said.
On the occasion, Headmaster Javid Javad and other faculty members expressed their gratitude to Prof Siddiqui for his visit and for imparting valuable lessons to the schoolchildren.
