Poor roads, choked drains cripple SIDCO Lassipora
Locals, industrialists bear the brunt
Pulwama: The SIDCO Industrial Estate in Lassipora, a major industrial hub in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, is reeling under severe infrastructure neglect, local entrepreneurs alleged Thursday.
Poor road conditions and inadequate drainage systems have become a daily struggle for residents, workers, and business owners operating in the area, they said.
Locals and employees expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of the roads, marked by deep potholes and surface damage. Commuters say driving through the area has become increasingly hazardous.
“Vehicles—ours and those transporting goods—are regularly getting damaged due to these broken roads,” said Nisar Ahmad, a local industrialist.
“The government claims widespread development, but this crucial industrial zone seems to have been forgotten.”
Adding to the crisis are the blocked and poorly designed drains. Abdul Rashid, a factory worker, highlighted how water stagnation from overflowing drains has created health concerns and disrupted daily operations.
“There are no proper drains in several places. Water spills onto the roads, making it difficult for people to walk or drive,” he added.
Frustrated by official inaction, residents, industrialists, and workers say they’ve raised the issue multiple times with authorities but to no avail.
“Repeated appeals have fallen on deaf ears,” they said, urging the administration to step in urgently and address the worsening situation.
