Srinagar: Police in Handwara seized nine tractors from various locations across Police District Handwara for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that acting on specific inputs, police teams from different police stations launched coordinated enforcement drives. During the operations, the vehicles were found transporting minerals without valid documentation, in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the violators as per the relevant provisions of law.
Police is committed to take action against violators by extracting minerals illegally to the detriment of people health, the ecology and the revenue of the government. Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood, the spokesman added.
